Mobile SPAM Reporting 07text0spam

I came across an interesting little service today at

http://www.07text0spam.com/

Although it doesn't look like they are getting many spam reported through them I figure it is always a good idea to support those who are fighting the good fight.

The only downside I see to them is that it does cost the consumer a standard rate text charge to forward the message to the service.

A review of their Privacy Policy shows no indication that these guys are anything other than legit.

If anyone has had an experience with 07text0spam - I'd be happy to hear about it.

I don't think they have a lot of traffic and were relatively late into the market to do this. I co-founded Grumbletext back in 2003 and it's still going strong. You can forward your message via SMS (standard rate text) or you can add your 'grumble' to the forum online. It's a place where you can check if something you've received is spam or scam, what to do about it and more importantly, your experience is there for anyone else to see. It's run on a voluntary basis - there are no sponsors or any corporate backing.

Check it out at http://www.grumbletext.co.uk

You'll see that the usual suspects turn up time after time and it's the same kind of problems that occur over and over.

The good news is, there are a lot of providers out there who do give great customer service, never quibble about refunds and have a refreshing approach to the whole mobile content customer service thing. But it's not yet everyone.

And did you know Vodafone has a barely publicised v-spam service too. I have no idea how well or not it does. I hope it's doing brilliantly to help stamp out text scams and complements the good work happening at Grumbletext.

Hi, the 07text0spam was agreat idea and started in 2003 so not late into the market. In fact it was launched fully on same day as the privacy act.

I was the founder of the service and did so much more than just send a txt to us. We worked with a unique way into ICSTIS for complaints and also into ASA and IC office.

Also aim was not only to stop companies after the event but to educate as well. We had on the site all the resources for companies to do it right.

It was only for text messages and people like Adrian at Gumbletxt done a good job on sides of informing away from text messages. The reason it is no longer active is because the main company behind it had problems within the management and ended up close the doors, this meant the loss of 07text0spam as a number to txt to.

It did cost the std rate to txt to us and no money was made from that (apart from the network of course) but was a small price to pay to know that it was being taken seriously somewhere. We had over 25,000 txts in the service and managed to stop one of the biggest scams in their tracks.

Also myself and staff at 07text0spam did end up attending ICSTIS at times for their solicitors as expert witness.

It is a shame the service is not running now as i know what good it done for 4 years. Glad to hear there are more 'watchdogs' out there to keep the companies in check and for others to find where bad service and scam service is around.

Another note - ICSTIS name change to Phone Pay Plus, do they not sound like of the service providers now?

A few words about why we're here

Since consumers first started to use SMS marketers have had the idea of text message marekting or marketing sms - also known as mobile marketing. And since that time marketing sms messages have grown and changed and new technology like bluetooth marketing, marketing bluetooth style to phones in close proximity to an advertisers.

And since the e-mail spam scourge took over the media, people have worried that there will be mobile phone spam. Spam is just another way of saying that advertisers send unsolicited text message marketing, marketing sms, bluetooth marketing or any other form of mobile marketing - it's mobile phone spam. There are even guides on how to spam phone s.

Consumer Preference is about permission based marketing, permission marketing solution. If, as an advertiser you can execute permission based marketing campaigns then you can certainly find ways to benefit from mobile marketing. And permission starts with understanding the consumer marketing preference. If you can understand consumer marketing preference, then you can execute permission based marketing. And permission marketing is not mobile phone spam.

There are many mobile marketing company listings that can be found on the Internet - and most mobile marketing company websites will tell you how they focus on permission marketing. Make sure that the one you partner with does more than tell you about it on the website. Opt-in marketing starts with your traditional marketing soliciting for permission.

Yes - Mobile marketing starts with traditional marketing - print, web, radio, television - all of the old standards. Because before you can send the first message to a consumer, you must obtain their permission... and that means that you understand consumer marketing prefernce.

Please enjoy reading consumer-preference.com - and if you feel that there is a point I'm making you'd like to share - then put a link to it from your own site. And always feel free to leave comments!
